Charades + Bluey
Charades is a time-tested game that kids still love to play. Whether a kid likes to be the centre of attention or not, a game of charades will give them an opportunity to express themselves or get outside of their own head. This particular game contains cards with pictures and words so that kids who aren’t yet readers can join in and play.
As a parent, don’t be tempted to sit on the sidelines for this game. Your kids will love it when Dad pretends to be a butterfly, or Mum pretends to be an elephant. We have played this many times over the years and it has given us great joy and laughter as we get lost in imagination, expression and escapism.
At this price point, there is plenty of wriggle room to include a book in the gift and for this age range (3-6 yr olds) you can’t go wrong with a Bluey book.
Charades, by Bluey
Sadly, we’re probably growing out of Bluey now. I’m sure my kids would watch new episodes, but I guess the current ones have been viewed so often that it doesn’t get a run very much now. I think we all know why Bluey has been so successful – the storytelling is genius-level, plus the characters are slightly aspirational but mostly relatable. Just like a really good children’s book, Bluey can reveal truths and emotions and in so doing bring adults to tears (I’m looking at you ‘Baby Race’)
So it’s not really a surprise that the Bluey books are such high quality. They seem to capture the essence of the characters and the episode storylines. In this book, the flaps are used really well to reveal the charade objects.
I say absorb all the Bluey you can while you’re kids are young, they will grow out of it before you realise.
