The Terrible Two Go Wild, by Mac Barnett and Jory John
As expected, after the first book in the series got rave reviews, ‘The Terrible Two Go WIld‘ was un-put-down-able. While we have skipped a book (this being book number three) it doesn’t seem to have hampered the reading experience.
What is so great about this book? Jude says he likes that sometimes it makes him laugh in his head. He likes the pranks. He likes the way it is written and, having read a few chapters myself, I see what he means. The book is written in just the way a young boy thinks. It is detailed in the right places and vague or silent on things that would not interest them.
I also think the setting of this book is really appealing to kids. The main characters, Miles sand Niles, are on summer holidays and seem to have free run of things. Their parents are almost absent from the story, which means the boys can fill their time running wild in the forest getting in and out of trouble.
Miles and Niles come from different family backgrounds and have different personalities, but they are loyal friends (now). They admire one another and watch out for one another. They learn from each other and stand up for each other. They work together to teach the local bully a lesson they will never forget. They have the type of friendship every kid wants to read about because it is the type of friendship every kid want to have.
